The system I use to control my remotely located equipment via remote control is an X10 PowerMid Transmitter & Receiver IR-RF blaster. The Transmitter is located in the wall below the TV behind a wall plate. This converts the IR signal created by my remote control to RF which can be transmitted up to 100 Feet, through walls, floors, ect. The receiver is located in front of the equipment in the closet, which converts the RF signal back to IR so the equipment can respond. It works flawlessly. The receiver also has a extension port on the back so you can connect an external emitter that can be placed directly onto the equipment for a more positive signal transfer. I will be replacing this setup with a hard wired one soon.

The Remote control used to control my equipment is a One-For-All 8800 custom programmable remote that is programmed with custom codes via a JP1 cable connection and PC software. This controls all of my AV equipment that reside in the Hallway closet.
