Remote Control

The DCT series comes can come with a couple of different types of remote controls. Both have its good and bad points. Here is a picture of the most common types:

The Silver one on the Left is the most recent remote being given out by the cable providers. The Black one on the right is more functional (has more buttons), but it is ugly. Lets compare the 2 &  go over the good and the bad.

The Silver one seems to fit better in your hand and seems to get the basic functions in the right places, but it does lack functionality. Like the ability to search through the Guide & Menu a full day in advance with one button, and the it does not have the ability to do any more than 3 devices. Also, the "ALL ON" button does all 3 devices, which can be a problem with set ups that don't need all of the equipment on at each sitting.

The Black one while having all of the buttons they are poorly laid out & not very user friendly. If it does have an "ALL ON" button (usually red on the bottom right) it only does the Cable Box and TV, this is nice for most users but Home Theater users will find this annoying at the least.

This brings us to the majority of the High end users using many different versions of a Universal Remote Control. Programming may pose a problem for them. First they may not be able to find Motorola in their programming codes. The code may be listed under General Instrument and in most generic remotes, 0476 or 0276, will be the code that works most of the functions of the DCT (Guide, Menu, Arrows, ect.)

Here is a link to a copy of the Booklet that comes with Black Remote but the functions & set-up codes can be used on the Silver remote, except the Silver Remote uses 4 digits for the codes instead of 3, so just add a "0" to the beginning. Example if the code is 476, Silver Remote code would be 0476.
