5100 / 6200 Remote Tweaks

There are 2 different styles of remotes that are provided with the Motorola DCT5100 & 6200 series HD Cable STB.

Both remotes are manufactured by One-For-All. One-for-All makes many different universal remote controls that offer many levels of programmability.

Some of these programming methods can be used with the remotes that the Cable Company provides.

The Model Numbers of these remotes are:

URC-44CXXXB02 (On Right)

URC-1057BG0 (On Left)

These remote controls come with a booklet that has all of the programming codes & device codes you need to do the normal functions of a standard universal remote control. There are also some advanced functions you can perform with these remotes:

Here is a copy of the booklet for the Black Remote

Volume Lock (Setup Code 993)

Allows the remote to be programmed to control the volume of a device other than the default device which is the 'TV'. Normally this is used for an A/V receiver.

Manual Code Search (Setup Code 991)

Allows you to scroll through all of the codes that are programmed under that particular device

Device Code Check (Setup Code 990)

Displays the code setup on a particular device via flashes of the LED.

Channel Lock (Setup Code 973)

Allows the remote to control the Channel Changing for another device or to lock it for all devices.

MACRO (setup code 995)

These are the setup codes that are in the booklet and they are fairly common, but there is one code that isn't in the book, and can be quite functional. Its called a MACRO.

Basically a macro is a sequence of keystrokes that can be accessed by pressing just one button.

The access code for this is 9-9-5.

Press & Hold "setup" then press "9-9-5"

The next button press will be the button you want the macro assigned to. (Try to choose a button that isn't being used by another function of the remote)

Then press each button in order that you want the signals to be sent out.

For example:

"Cable" --> "Power" --> "TV" --> "Power" --> "Cable" --> "3-0-1"

This will Turn the TV & Cable Box "ON" & then tune to channel 301.

If you do this on the Silver Remote, when you press the button you assigned macro to it will send out the sequence button presses you assigned. This works with up to 15 key presses.

If you do this on the Black Remote, you need to press the assigned macro button 2 times. The first press is its original intended function of that button and the 2nd press will send out the macro. Unfortunately, the Black remote only allows for 4 key presses.

You cannot assign macros to all of the buttons on the remotes.

Also to add to this each one of the Remotes have the ability to be programmed via a PC. This can be done through the 6 pin connector on the back of the remote. This connector is called a JP1. It is common on all One-for-all remotes & some Radio Shack models. The software is a free download from www.JP1.com & you can build the adapter to connect it to your PC for less than $10. This adaptor allows complete custom programming for your remote. Macros, Re-assign device keys, add new components that are not on the programming list, ect.
